Working Together
Our experience tells us that we can help people sort out confident goals and plans over the course of two meetings that take approximately 3.5 to 4 hours. Our goal is to empower people to make voluntary choices of careers that will value their interests, strengths and be meaningful.
1
Initial Meeting.
In our initial meeting, we will get to know you and the goal will be to listen and understand. We will work with you in a comfortable, respectful and collaborative manner that will help you explore your successes and identify the skills, qualities and interests that can help guide your future decisions and successes.
2
Information Gathering.
If personality or interest assessments are appropriate, we will help you understand why and will arrange for you to complete indicators that will provide information to support confident decision-making. We will explain test results in a way that will be clear and practically useful to you.
3
Final Meeting.
The process will culminate in a meeting to plan concrete academic or career goals and strategies for achieving them. We use a collaborative approach and we always include parents as essential contributors to the planning process when we work with young people. Parents know their children better than anyone else, and will always be part of celebrating their successes and have important insights to contribute.
Our Core Beliefs
Collaboration
We believe that educational and career planning are collaborative activities and the best outcomes are achieved when people trust, respect and value each other’s uniqueness, experience and expertise. We have an established record of working with clients and families in ways that work best for them.
Decisions about academic or career directions have important implications for the people who make them and their families. The best plans take into account the ideas, experience and perspectives of all the people who are affected by those decisions. Career and educational planning can, and should be, collaborative activities that build trust, respect and confidence within families.
Evidence and Values Based Decision-Making
There can be risk involved in making academic or career decisions when you are young and relatively inexperienced or changing career or work directions. We help our clients make confident choices by assisting them to understand how things they know are true for them in relation to their interests and strengths connect with people working happily and successfully in career fields. We value people’s life experience but also introduce reliable data to help guide effective decision-making.
“I would like to take this time to thank you for everything you have done for me over the last year. I know that without your guidance, I most likely would not be in the position I am today. I really would like to thank you for all of your help in setting me along the right path to succeed in the future.”
